HIKE

Kriley Overlook
Golden Gate State Park

September, 2008

Elevation: foothills

Wildflowers found on this hike

Path through rocks at the top of the ridge

We went up to view the changing leaves, but they were very late this year, and still green on all the aspens on this hike. We started at the Kriley Overlook Trailhead, followed the Mule Deer trail to the Black Bear Trail, and followed that down to the road, and walked back to the parking lot along the road. The trail passed through aspen groves, open meadows, and pine forests. The Black Bear Trail winds back and forth over the top of the ridge, a very rocky walk. The late fall wildflowers were blooming, and there was a remarkable variety, given the lateness of the season.
